I was having a typically brief discussion the other day with my newly-single officemate about police in the United Kingdom and how the majority of street cops over there aren’t authorized to carry firearms. For the record, the ones that are authorized to carry firearms carry as many guns as they can strap to their bodies. All that aside, the rapper Ghostface Killah (born Dennis Coles) poignantly sums up why it’s better when cops have guns. People should respect the police whether they’re armed or not; but when they’re armed, they get the respect no matter what.
