In June of 2004 I began my personal weblog (using good old Blogspot) by stating that “Weblogs are inherently egotistical”. In the early years I always stuck up for the usefulness of these blog thingies in the face of whithering opposition. “It’s such a waste of time! I have better things to do!” was a classic line. “What makes you think people want to read all that crap, anyway?” was another. Since those days, anybody that complained about blogging now has a blog of their own (or at least started one which died on the vine). As far as blogging media, I really dig WordPress. Now that they’re doing their own hosting, I can bask in that measure of anonymity that makes me feel like I’m a guerrilla fighter in the jungle of the internet.
I just started writing EUI in December of 2007 mostly because I realized that I was making almost exclusively law enforcement-related posts on my personal blog. I had always wanted to start up a “professional” blog where I only talk about my job and stuff, but my job and stuff up until very lately hasn’t been very interesting, least of all to me. Changing careers to one that I actually enjoy has afforded me a great opportunity – to do something with my life that I can actually invest myself in. And when I invest in something, I invariably start over-thinking about it – hence, in part, the title of this blog. The other part of the title is that I thought it sounded really cool.
I’m writing EUI to be partly a personal journal my law enforcement career and also a place for thoughts and opinions on LE-related material. I fully expect that my perceptions and opinions will constantly be changing as I go through the academy and eventually start working for a P.D. someplace, and no doubt I’ll look back at my own writing and have a laugh or two. But that’s all part of the fun, really. I also hope to be able to get involved with the online law enforcement community, mostly for my own good.
